A distinctive custom font for a completely new cricket game: The Hundred. A modular typeface for a dynamic typographic system.

Foundry: Fontsmith/Monotype
Client: FutureBrand

During my time at Fontsmith, we were asked to create a distinctive typeface for a completely new cricket game: The Hundred. Taking inspiration from modular type, I started working on a bespoke monospaced & monowidth font with a technical feel. Together with the Fontsmith team and FutureBrand, we explored and discussed different character shapes, ink trap and corner treatments. We also explored multiple structures for the figures, of which we had solid and stencil versions. We looked at different ways to cut in and stencil, to get the balance right as a whole set, not only as individual letterforms. The resulted impactful letterforms worked incredibly well with FutureBrand’s lively design system.
